In Canada, on Remembrance Day, we honour a “Silver Cross Mother” This is a mother who has lost a child (or children) in war lays a wreath to represent all the mothers who have lost a child fighting a war.
When I was younger (I’m talking the mid 70’s, early 80’s…) these Mothers were all so very elderly. They were in their 80’s and 90’s and were usually wheeled up to lay their wreaths.
This year - they were my age (Late 40’s to early 50’s) . I lost it. I have a son old enough to be in the military and it just hit home so hard.
Sooo… really have all the mom’s who have lost children off fighting wars on my mind tonight. Suddenly, they’re not these people I see once a year, but they’re normal people like me..
