I’m not disabled but I do have a chronic illness. I’m diabetic and after 7 years of having it under control, we can no longer control it. No, I don’t sit around and eat candy all day while watching TV, I’m actually training for four 5k runs this summer and spend 5 nights a week at the gym, Saturday’s running outdoors, and Sunday’s swimming for 2 hours.
However, my pancreas has decided to stop working. Nothing I can do about it. Now, I get sick. A lot. You get a cold, I get pneumonia. You get a bladder infection, I’m hospitalized with a stubborn kidney infection. Even an ear infection can hospitalize me. My body can no longer heal itself.
Today at work, I got to hear people bitch about how we should never take sick days since we have a work from home option.
Good luck to that, especially on days where you have to go twice a day to the hospital for IV antibiotics.
…just rubbed me the wrong way and put me in a mood all day so when I read this post, I could relate in my own, if not obscure, way.
